With the breakup of the Soviet Union there emerged newly independent states of Central Asia: Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kirgizstan and Kazakhstan. The Silk Road once ran through the territory of this region and the names of cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva excite the traveler willing to visit breathtaking architectural monuments, explore archaeological sites and learn about these cultures. Journey through well-irrigated valleys, magnificent snowcapped mountains, vast deserts, visiting colorful markets, acquaintance with friendly hospitable people, experiencing local traditions – all this makes the trip through these fabled lands one of high interest and attraction.
Day 1 Tashkent
Arrival at Tashkent International Airport. At exit into city meeting with name plate and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Tashkent.
Day 2 Tashkent
Meeting in the hotel lobby with tour manager and start tour of Tashkent. Visit State Museum of History with rich collection of artifacts related to Archaeology. Meeting with Historian/Archeologist. Walking tour in Hazrati Imam complex in the old part of city including visit to Barak Khan Madrasah, Tilya Sheikh Mosque. Overnight in Tashkent.
Day 3 Tashkent-Samarkand
Morning train to Samarkand by fast train “Afrosiyob”. Upon arrival start tour of Samarkand. Visit the Institute of Restoration which has an outstanding collection of archaeological materials. Meeting with Historian/Archeologist. Then visit to Afrosiyob site & museum which display archaeological findings which include marvelous murals dating to 7-8 centuries A.D. Overnight in Samarkand.
Day 4 Samarkand
Continue tour of Samarkand with visit to Shakhi Zinda, Ulugbek Observatory, Registan square, Gur Emir mausoleum. Overnight in Samarkand.
Day 5 Samarkand-Shakhrisabz-Termez
Morning set-off towards Termez, the southern town of Uzbekistan. En-route stop in Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of Amir Temur and visit the famous Ak-Sarai (White Palace), Kok Gumbaz mosque. On arrival in Termez transfer to hotel. Overnight in Termez.
Day 6 Termez
Tour of Termez and surroundings include visit to Museum of History in Termez. Then visit to
Kara-Tepe Buddhist Monastery (2nd–4th centuries) (if special permission is issued, otherwise as substitution visit Kampir-Tepa fortress of the Greek Bactrian period (4thc.- 2thc. BC.)), Fayaz-Tepe Buddhist Monastery (1st–3rd centuries), Zurmala Tower (1st–2nd century AD) and Architectural Complex of Khakimi Termezi (10th-15th c.). Overnight in Termez.
Day 7 Termez-Bukhara
After breakfast drive to Bukhara. On arrival in Bukhara transfer to hotel. Overnight in Bukhara.
Day 8 Bukhara
Our touring in the historic center of Bukhara will begin with the museums and mosques in the Ark Citadel (ancient city fortress) and the Samanid Mausoleum built in striking brick designs by the founder of the Samanid dynasty. Our visits continue at the Chashma Ayub Mausoleum; Kalyan Minaret and Mosque; Bolo Hauz Mosque, renowned for its wooden pillars; the Lab-i Hauz complex surrounded by madrasahs; and the wonderful domed trade bazaars. Overnight in Bukhara.
Day 9 Bukhara
This morning we visit the ancient city of Paikent which is still under excavation with Archeologist. Returning to Bukhara visit Summer Palace of last Bukhara Emirs; the mausoleum of Bakhauddin Naqshbandi, the 14th-century founder of the Naqshbandiya Sufi order. Overnight in Bukhara.
Day 10 Bukhara-Ayaz Kala
After breakfast drive to Ayaz Kala across the Kizilkum desert. In Turtkul visit the museum about ancient Zoroastrian settlements of Khorezm. On arrival in Ayaz Kala visit the ruins. Overnight in Yurts.
Day 11 Ayaz Kala-Topraq Kala-Khiva
After breakfast visit to Topraq Kala and then drive to Khiva. In the pm tour of Khiva. Visit to Ichan-Qala: Muhammad Amin madrasah, Kalta Minar, Kunya Ark, Pahlavan Mahmud mausoleum,Islam Khodja complex, Friday mosque, Tash Hovli palace. Overnight in Khiva.
Day 12 Khiva-Dashoguz-Ashgabad
This morning we will cross into Turkmenistan. From Dashoguz take flight to Ashgabad, the capital city of Turkmenistan. Overnight in Ashgabad.
Day 13 Ashgabad
Tour of Ashgabat will include visit to National Museum of History and Ethnography which has a rich collection of ancient artifacts from Turkmenistan. More than 500,000 exhibits are displayed here in 9 halls. The highlight of the museum is a collection of ivory, discovered during the excavations at the Old Nissa, residence of Parthian kings from the Arshakid Dynasty. Then visit to the Archaeological site of Nissa including the remains of Old and New Nissa. The city was an important centre of the Parthian State, which existed from the 3rd century BC up to the 3rd century AD. Overnight in Ashgabad.
Day 14 Ashgabad-Mary-Gonur Depe
This morning take flight to Mary and drive to Gonur-Depe. The legendary Russian archaeologist, Viktor Sarianidi, has been working at this amazing site since 1972. He has confirmed that Gonur Depe, dated at 3000 BCE, is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Zoroastrian (fire-worshipping) civilization. Overnight in Mary.
Day 15 Mary-Merv-Mary-Ashgabat
After breakfast visit the site of ancient Merv, an amazing historical treasure-house and capital of the Parthian province of Margiana. Among its ruins are the tomb of Sultan Sanjar and the Erk-Kala fortress. Return to Mary and in the afternoon visit the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum to see a collection of archaeological artifacts from the ruins of ancient Merv. In the evening flight to Ashgabad. Overnight in Ashgabat.
Day 16 Ashgabat
Early morning transfer to airport for departure flight.
Meeting point : Your hotel or other preferred point in Tashkent.
