Welcome to Uzbekistan. Here you will find information and view photos of Uzbek Carpets.
Since ancient times, Uzbekistan is famous for the production of carpets, source material – wool sheep and camels were always enough. Uzbek Carpets differ in length cloth, patterns, and colors. Prior to the beginning of the XX century carpet weaving was exclusively female home craft of the rural population of the country. The manufacture of one rug can take from 6 months to 1 year, because the density of the weave is very high: in the pattern of each product need to be connected hundreds of thousands, if not over a million knots per square meter. Composing the designs of fabrics, craftsmen used a variety of themes both inherited and created again. In the early development of carpet weaving, the main topic of oriental ornament rugs were landscapes so-called “Garden of Eden”. Legend says that the basis for all carpet patterns is the famous pattern of the carpet of Sassanid king Khosrow (V-IV century), which depicted a favorite garden of the governor. Hence the central medallion of rugs became popular. They depicted the main flower bed in the middle of the king’s garden, a repeating pattern along the edge of this park paths, and small floral rosette at the corners of the carpet – flower beds in each corner of the garden. Each school of carpet weaving brings local flavor in products. Uzbek rugs are divided into three types – short-nap carpet gilyam, long-dzhulhirs and carpet cloth. A short-nap carpet is characterized by deep red-brown color, illuminated by colored lights harmoniously combined the basic parts of medallions, often geometric shapes. Best examples of Uzbek short-nap carpets are highly appreciated for its fine quality, depth and transparency of tone, a kind of simple ornamentation. Long pile carpet dzhulhirs has long been spread among the rural population of the Uzbek. This type of carpet art was unknown in the weaving of other peoples of Central Asia. Now it is gaining wide popularity for its decorative qualities and for the latest trends in the world of carpet weaving, expanding the production of long-carpets. Dzhulhirsy is monumental in composition, simple by design, spectacular in color. Carpet tissues are very diverse in Uzbekistan. Among these species there is Kohma – tissue consisting of smooth bands of different colors. Terma and Gadjari are woven in a pattern different methods of “linear search technique” and ornamented rows of small Geometrized floral ornament with zoomorphic motifs. Arabi is performed by the so-called “gap stretch technology” . All types of carpet tissues sometimes supplemented by taking a patch pattern. This is a complex and difficult technique that creates the impression of embroidery is called beshkashta. The famous Bukhara carpets are woven in red and brown colors, and the role of the central figure – “flower bed”, performed around the octagon on the edge of the scanned images of stars. Samarkand carpets are usually blue and yellow tones, in a central field, not one, but three medallions and there is a Greek design – “meander”on the curb. Uzbekistan has revived the tradition of silk carpet weaving. The Silk Carpets are unusually soft and very durable, their pile height does not exceed 2 mm.
